We have no better option that to do what we can with what we have exactly where we are...
And sometimes, it seems like exactly what we should be doing.
I was waiting for life to begin for so long. I finally realized that my life isn't going to begin with some monumental fixed change or shift in my reality. It's all a gradual progression in which completely unrelated and unfinished things and events bring us to our exact locations. I've come to find that big dreams and wishes for my future are just as important as finding myself here, now, having a full day off of work and sharing it with someone who has it off with me. How we came to share it together is a spellbinding conglomeration of sliding doors. How I find myself here is just the same.
I'm letting go of the future. I'm concentrating more on being right here. I like exactly where I'm at and exactly who's in it with me.

For those of you who frequent FMyLife on a bad day, hopefully this will make you smile.
fml Moments in Greek Mythology
By Jon Mitchell Edge and Tim Caine

Aeneas
After the Greeks began to burn down my city, I was ordered to leave. I was hurrying out of Troy with my son, my father (who can't walk), and my household gods. The one thing I forgot? My wife. Now she's dead. FML
Icarus
Today my father made wings out of feathers and wax so that we could escape the king's castle. But I flew too close to the sun and the wings melted. I then fell into the ocean below. I can't swim. FML
Odysseus
Today I came up with a plan that helped my country win a 10-year war. But, because I forgot to pray to Poseidon, I won't get to go home for another 10 years. FML
Polyphemus
This morning, I came home to find a bunch of guys sitting around my cave, so I locked them inside to teach them a lesson. Afterward, I got drunk and passed out. I woke up with a horrible pain in my eye. Those men had poked my eye out with a huge sharpened stick. I'm a 50-foot-tall giant and they were 5-foot-tall humans. Oh, and did I mention I was a Cyclops before I met them? FML
Oedipus
I've been really busy. I solved the riddle of the Sphinx, gained entrance to the city of Thebes, killed the king and took his place, and then married his wife and had several kids. As it turns out, the guy that I killed to become king was my dad. And the chick that I married and had kids with was my mother. FML

Barefootsunbabies
I can't find my glasses this morning which will make these updates a bit more headache inclined. I was hoping to write a quick review to Susan Sontag's Regarding the Pain of Others but it all depends on my success in finding my eyegoggles. Life is good these days. I'm happy with my job and the luxuries it affords me such as numerous sunny afternoons to bike around the lakes, time to wander barefoot around St. Paul, drink banana chocolate malts, cold beer afternoons and midnight beach parties in celebration of the first warm nights of the season. I work enough to support myself. I forget the days of the week. I never dread a Monday. As far as things, things and more things, I have all I need.

The sailboats will be out on Lake Harriet so soon!

Safe Schools for All Bill
In my inability to fully articulate the Safe Schools Bills that is, hopefully, on its way to being signed by the big d-bag, I thought I'd link a few good articles:
From the Minnesota Independent: Anti-Bullying Seeks Safe Schools for All
An op-ed from a bullied student in support of the bill from the Star Tribune: Andy Berlin: Bullied and harassed, a student can't learn
A list of supports of the bill
Honestly, I never knew this bill had such an affiliation with the glbt community. The bill protects students against bullying based on race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, ability... I wish that the public support for this bill would address these realities as fervently as it addresses it's significance to the gay community. I think it is important to include all aspects of the bill because the movement here in Minnesota tends to have some very strong racist undertones. The only way progress will happen is if we do it together, not just in the interest of the middle-class white gay community.

tidbit.
Let me count the ways...
Are there not enough ridiculous reasons to pick up young Black youths these days?
Check this out! Yes, baggy pants are the new threat to society. What?!?!

Senate Sets Stage for Passage of Safe Schools for All Bill!
On Thursday, April 16, the Safe Schools for All Bill passed a procedural vote in the Minnesota Senate by a margin of 43-22. Final passage is expected April 20. The bill to enhance anti-bullying policies would then be ready to be voted on by the full House.

Proposition Hate
There are two marriage equality bills being introduced at the capital. The first is being sponsored by Scott Dibble. If you don't know who Scott Dibble is, you should.
I'll keep an update on this.
----------------------------------
I have a few opinions about the gay community that I know upset some members. I will say what I wish to say anyway. First, the term 'fiance', I believe, is a term that is deemed for those who are getting married. It is not a term of endearment or a term to recognize the length of time or seriousness of a relationship. An engagement is a promise to marry and 'fiancee' means 'bride' while 'fiance' means 'groom'. I believe that the gay community needs to get serious about taking marriage seriously to be taken seriously. I believe that it shouldn't have to, considering those who have the right to do it don't take it all that seriously, but this could be a chance to reshape the institution. There are so many individuals who are seeking the rights to marriage and there are those who use the ban on gay marriage as a public albatross. I also believe that the term 'partner' is just as serious, if not more serious, than the terms 'fiance' and 'fiancee' as they are still a gendered terms and assume the company of the other (as does the faulty institution). I have struggled with fighting for the right to marry as I felt that it compromised my feminist ideals. Marriage has a violent and negative history based on the exchanging of women as property, enslavement, inter-marital rape, domestic abuse and the like. But, for the institution to define itself, for the first time, based on equality and love, I can finally find a justification for supporting the transformation of the institution that I've felt so much distain for in such a way that uphold my feminist values. One thing that I am losing patience for is the lack of support in the community to those who are seeking and wish for such a life of companionship, home ownership and parenting. To say, in a negative way, "Oh, are they like married now?", is not going to help the movement. We need to start supporting each other in the community. If we can't find support within the community from the first people we should be finding support from, how are we ever going to come together to fight Proposition Hate. Why do we find so much to complain about when it comes to homophobia and lack of rights in society but yet can't support the very people in our community who are being most effected by them? To deal with finances, to buy a house, to raise a child is difficult. They are more difficult when you're jumping through hoops and hitting unnecessary roadblocks along the way. So, the next time we think about Proposition Hate, let's not think about it as an albatross. Let's not think about it as a way to finally say fiancee to eachother in EVERY goddamn relationship two weeks in and finally have to take responsibility for it. Let's think about those who are in our community who need the support of their fellow community members. Let's start supporting eachother.
I think we all have a lot to learn from Harvey Milk. Thank you, life, for Harvey Milk! He showed us how much power there is in coming together!

bloggers block
I have officially caught it.
Bloggers block.
Are humans voyeuristic by nature?
I've self medicated myself with a move to Minneapolis to cure this plague of boredom I've caught. Although, I've been told, only boring people get bored. I've decided to never allow myself to get bored starting Friday March 6th.
My move comes in natural progression of my blog:
1. The road trip of a lifetime
2. Mongolia
3. Intrigue of moving to my hometown
4. The race to the Whitehouse
5. Suburbia gives me nothing to talk about...I've caught Bloggers Blockitis.
6. And so, I am moving to Minneapolis!
(in the style of this ninja below!)
